Noida to Kaziranga With a Dog

Roughly 2040km by road, which is around 32 hours of driving. Almost nobody does this by car with a dog. Train or plane is the sensible route.

Works from either end. The only real difference is whether the hard hour comes first or last.

Do not drive this one

This is a 2040km haul and the road version is not worth it. Take the train, alighting for Kaziranga at Furkating or Jorhat, then a road transfer of one to two hours.

Leaving Noida

Kaziranga lies east of Noida, roughly 2040km by road. Noida gets out easily eastward and painfully westward. The Yamuna and Noida Greater Noida expressways are among the better roads in the country, and the crossings into Delhi are among the worst, so a route that never touches the city saves an hour that no amount of early starting will.

Where to break this journey

Done by road this is a multi day trip, and these are where the days naturally break.

  • Varanasi , heritage in Uttar Pradesh, around 41% of the way
  • Darjeeling , hill in West Bengal, around 68% of the way
  • Gangtok , hill in Sikkim, around 70% of the way

Of the 57 destinations we cover, Kaziranga is the 45th closest to Noida.

Closer from Noida, if this is further than you wanted

Kaziranga in one paragraph

Pets are not permitted inside the national park under any circumstances, which is true of Indian national parks generally. If you travel here with a dog, someone stays outside the park with them.

The full Kaziranga guide covers access, terrain and the parts of the year that are worth avoiding entirely.

Veterinary access at the far end

Basic. Jorhat, about two hours away, has better options. Bring your own supplies.

Ask about hours rather than assuming. Round the clock is advertised more often than it is staffed. Emergency vets by city.

Timing it from Noida

Delhi's climate: over 45C in summer, difficult winter air quality.

Diwali and summer heat.

Set that against Kaziranga, where the advice is to go november to april and avoid May to October. The overlap between those two windows is your actual travel season, and it is usually narrower than either one suggests on its own.

Doing this journey with your dog

At around 32 hours of driving this is two days each way, which is the argument for the train. Two people make a long drive a different journey. One can sit in the back for the difficult stretches, and either of you can go into a dhaba without leaving a dog alone in a parked car, which on an Indian afternoon is the thing that must never happen. On a run this long it is close to essential.

Our breed climate checker scores how your breed copes with the conditions at Kaziranga, and the travel hub has the other 56 destinations if this one turns out to be the wrong fit.

Questions people ask

How far is Kaziranga from Noida?

Roughly 2040km by road, east of Noida, which is around 32 hours of driving. At that distance almost nobody drives it with a dog, and the figure is an estimate rather than a looked-up number.

Should I fly or take the train from Noida to Kaziranga?

Rail wins on weight and loses on time. Under about 7kg the flight is genuinely easier. Above it, the train is the humane answer rather than merely the cheaper one.

Can I drive from Noida to Kaziranga with a dog if I want to?

You can, over two or three days. Varanasi, Darjeeling, Gangtok sit broadly along the corridor and make sensible overnight stops.

What is the best time to visit Kaziranga with a dog?

November to April. Avoid May to October, because park closed during monsoon flooding.

Do I need to book pet friendly stays in Kaziranga ahead?

Yes, and confirm by phone rather than trusting a listing. Properties marked pet friendly frequently turn out to mean small dogs only, or specific rooms, or an undisclosed fee. Get the size limit in writing.

What should I pack for Noida to Kaziranga?

Water and a collapsible bowl, their own food rather than a new one, the physical vaccination card, any medication, a spare lead, poo bags and an old towel. The vaccination card is the item people leave behind and then need.

These figures are calculated rather than driven. They are close enough to plan a route and choose a stop, and not close enough to book anything that depends on the minute.
