Indoor Dog Potty for Large Dogs
Four things break at about 25kg, and none of them are the dog's willingness.
Most indoor dog toilets are designed around a dog under ten kilos and scaled up by making the tray bigger. Scaling the dimensions does not address what actually changes with a Labrador, which is volume, aim, and the force of a large animal stepping onto a light object.
What changes at this size
Volume saturates a flat surface
A Labrador produces enough at once that a single layer pad is wet by day three rather than lasting three weeks. Nothing is wrong with the pad; it is being asked to hold in one go what a Pomeranian delivers in a week. This is the problem the self draining build exists for.
The leg lift misses the tray
A male dog aims up, because height is the point of the mark. On a flat pad against a wall, a good share of it lands on the paint and runs down to the skirting. Raised sides on two or three edges catch the arc. Without them the tray can be doing its job perfectly while your wall takes the hit.
A light tray slides
Thirty kilos stepping onto a light plastic tray on vitrified tile moves it, and a dog that has felt a surface slide under it once will avoid that surface afterwards. Weight and grip matter more at this size than any feature on the box.
Turning space
A dog circles before it goes. If it cannot complete a turn on the surface it will stand half on and half off, and half off is your floor. Most trays sold in India are sized for a dog considerably smaller than the photo suggests.

The honest version for a big dog
A large dog costs more to run than a small one on any system, because it produces more. Disposable pads climb fastest, a washable tray climbs in cleaning time rather than rupees, and ours climbs in pads. What does not change is that you are not scrubbing anything.

What size indoor potty does a large dog need?
Large, meaning 65x50cm in our sizing, for anything over 20kg. The working test is whether the dog can turn a full circle while standing on it. Between two sizes, take the bigger, because a dog that overshoots the edge stops using it and you will not get that habit back easily.
Do pee pads work for a Labrador?
Poorly, and expensively. A large dog goes through disposables fast enough that the monthly cost climbs sharply, and a thin sheet slides on tile under that weight. They are fine for a few days after an operation and a bad permanent arrangement at this size.
How often do I change the pad for a big dog?
Nearer three weeks than four, and sooner in monsoon. A large pad is ₹349 against ₹249 for small and medium, and it also comes round more often, so budget for both effects rather than one.
What stops my dog peeing on the wall?
Raised sides on the two or three edges nearest the wall, at a height that catches the arc without being so tall the dog hesitates to step in. Position the tray against the wall rather than out in the room, so the guard is between the dog and the paint.
Is the self draining version worth it for a large dog?
Usually, yes, and this is the case it was built for. Urine drains off the coir into a sealed base so the surface stays dry instead of holding a puddle. It is ₹4,499 against ₹799, and it adds a job: the base is emptied and rinsed once or twice a week. For a Labrador that trade is normally worth it and for a Pug it is not.
Will a large dog even use an indoor toilet?
Size has little to do with willingness. Most dogs take to a natural surface within one to three days because it smells like ground they already use. What changes with a big dog is the equipment around it rather than the training.
Which large breeds is this most common for?
Labradors and Golden Retrievers by a wide margin, since they are the most popular large breeds in Indian apartments, then German Shepherds, Rottweilers and larger Indies. Labradors also drink heavily in Indian heat, which compounds the volume problem.
