Most dogs do not need this

The problem it solves
Any single layer potty has the same limit. The liquid has nowhere to go, so it sits on the surface until the pad is changed. For a small dog that is fine, because the pad absorbs what arrives and dries between uses. For a large dog it is not, because the surface is wet by day three and stays that way.
The self draining version separates the dog from the liquid. The coir surface sits slightly raised, urine drains down into a sealed base the moment it lands, and the dog stands on a dry top. Standing urine is what smells, so removing it from the surface removes most of the odour with it.

A large breed
A Labrador, Golden Retriever, German Shepherd or big Indie produces enough at once to soak a flat pad in days rather than weeks. Draining the liquid away is what keeps the surface usable.
A heavy drinker
Some dogs drink like it is permanently summer, which in most of India it nearly is. Volume rather than size is the real variable, and a medium dog that drinks heavily hits the same limit.
Two or more dogs
Two medium dogs on one pad is the same load as one large one, and they arrive at it faster because they follow each other.
Monsoon months
Between June and September nothing dries. A flat pad that would recover between uses in January stays damp for days in July, particularly on a shaded balcony.
What it asks of you, stated plainly
Everywhere else on this site we say there is nothing to clean, and for the standard kit that is true. This version is the exception and you should know before you buy rather than after.
- The coir on top is replaced every three to four weeks, the same as always.
- The sealed base is emptied and rinsed once or twice a week, depending on the dog. Sealed away from air it does not smell in between, and it is still a weekly job.
That is the trade: a small recurring task in exchange for a surface that stays dry under a dog who would soak a flat pad in days. For a household that does not have that dog, it is a task with no benefit attached.

What it is not
It is not self cleaning and it does not flush. Those two phrases get searched for constantly in India and effectively describe no working consumer product here. Draining means the liquid moves off the surface into a base you empty. Anything advertised as self cleaning or automatically flushing is worth reading very carefully before you pay for it.

No. Nothing we make is self cleaning and nothing we make flushes. Self cleaning and automatic flushing dog toilets are searched for constantly and effectively do not exist as a working consumer product in India. Anything claiming it deserves close reading before you pay.
Do I need it for a small dog?

Can I upgrade my existing kit?
Not by adding a part. The raised draining layer and the sealed base are built as one unit under the coir, so the self draining version is a separate product rather than an accessory for the standard tray.
Does it smell less than the standard pad?
For a high volume dog, noticeably. Standing urine is what smells, so pulling it off the surface and sealing it below leaves far less for bacteria to work on. For a small dog on a standard pad there is no puddle in the first place, so there is nothing to improve.
How often do I change the coir on top?
Every three to four weeks, the same as the standard kit, and sooner for a very large dog. The drainage extends how long the surface stays comfortable rather than extending pad life indefinitely.
