Gurgaon to Ranthambore With a Dog

Around 8 hours of driving, roughly 350km. That is a long day and most people split it over two.

The route works the same from either end, so read it whether you are starting in Gurgaon or in Ranthambore.

How the road actually runs

Roughly 350km and about 8 hours, traffic depending. About 3 hours from Jaipur and 6 from Delhi on decent road. Sawai Madhopur is also a straightforward overnight train from Delhi, which many people prefer to a long summer drive. The last stretch from the town to the resorts is slow and full of speed breakers.

Railhead if you would rather not drive: Sawai Madhopur, about 15 minutes from most resorts and one of the better connected small stations in Rajasthan.

Leaving Gurgaon

Ranthambore lies due south of Gurgaon, roughly 350km by road. Leaving Gurgaon is really a question of which way you cross the expressway. Southbound on NH48 is clear early and solid from about 8am once Manesar traffic builds, and anything through Delhi is worse than going around it. Aim to be past Kherki Daula before seven.

Of the 57 destinations we cover, Ranthambore is the 11th closest to Gurgaon.

Closer from Gurgaon, if this is further than you wanted

Ranthambore in one paragraph

Pets are not permitted inside the tiger reserve. As with all Indian national parks, plan on one person staying back with the dog during safaris.

The full Ranthambore guide runs through access, restrictions, hazards and what the weather does month by month.

Veterinary access at the far end

Basic clinics in Sawai Madhopur town for routine problems. Anything serious means Jaipur, roughly three hours away, so carry regular medication and a tick remover.

Know where the nearest twenty four hour option is even if the local one looks fine, since local ones close. Emergency vets by city.

Timing it from Gurgaon

Gurgaon shares Delhi's extremes: over 45C in May and June, and difficult winter air. The high rise stock also means many dogs get less ground level exercise than their breed needs, which shows up as weight and joint problems.

Diwali is the peak week for emergencies. Summer heat is the other.

Set that against Ranthambore, where the advice is to go october to april and avoid May to September. The overlap between those two windows is your actual travel season, and it is usually narrower than either one suggests on its own.

Doing this journey with your dog

At around 8 hours this is a long day out of Gurgaon, and most people split it. Plan the first stop before you leave, not when the dog starts complaining. Somewhere with shade and a patch of grass inside the first ninety minutes sets the pattern for the rest of the 8 hours, and it tells you early whether this dog travels well. The stop you improvise on a highway shoulder helps nobody.

Our breed climate checker scores how your breed copes with the conditions at Ranthambore, and the travel hub has the other 56 destinations if this one turns out to be the wrong fit.
