Gurgaon to Goa With a Dog

Roughly 1890km by road, which is around 30 hours of driving. Almost nobody does this by car with a dog. Train or plane is the sensible route.

Written to be read in either direction. Coming back from Goa to Gurgaon is the same road and usually the harder half.

Do not drive this one

1890km each way is two days of driving in each direction, which is more travel than trip. Trains serve Goa through Madgaon and Thivim are the main stations, both well connected to Mumbai and Bangalore.

Leaving Gurgaon

Goa lies due south of Gurgaon, roughly 1890km by road. Leaving Gurgaon is really a question of which way you cross the expressway. Southbound on NH48 is clear early and solid from about 8am once Manesar traffic builds, and anything through Delhi is worse than going around it. Aim to be past Kherki Daula before seven.

Where to break this journey

Only sensible split across nights, and these are the nights.

  • Mount Abu , hill in Rajasthan, around 41% of the way
  • Udaipur , heritage in Rajasthan, around 37% of the way
  • Nashik , vineyard in Maharashtra, around 67% of the way

Of the 57 destinations we cover, Goa is the 41st closest to Gurgaon.

Closer from Gurgaon, if this is further than you wanted

Goa in one paragraph

Beaches are the draw and also the risk. Sand gets hot enough to burn paws through the middle of the day, so walk early or after sunset. Sea water is not safe to drink and often causes stomach upset, so carry fresh water. Many shacks are relaxed about dogs on the sand, though this varies by beach and season.

The full Goa guide sets out the walkable ground, the places that turn dogs away and what the weather does to it.

Veterinary access at the far end

Vets in Panaji, Mapusa and Margao, so help is rarely more than 30 to 45 minutes away. Good coverage by Indian travel standards.

Get the number into your phone before you leave Gurgaon, not after something has happened. Emergency vets by city.

Timing it from Gurgaon

Gurgaon shares Delhi's extremes: over 45C in May and June, and difficult winter air. The high rise stock also means many dogs get less ground level exercise than their breed needs, which shows up as weight and joint problems.

Diwali is the peak week for emergencies. Summer heat is the other.

Set that against Goa, where the advice is to go november to february and avoid June to September. The overlap between those two windows is your actual travel season, and it is usually narrower than either one suggests on its own.

Doing this journey with your dog

At around 30 hours of driving this is two days each way, which is the argument for the train. Carry the vaccination card as a physical document. Hotels ask, some checkposts ask, and a vet at the far end will want it if anything happens. A photograph on a phone gets refused often enough to matter. Pack it with the lead, the bowl, poo bags and an old towel, and put the lot somewhere reachable rather than under the luggage for 30 hours.

Our breed climate checker scores how your breed copes with the conditions at Goa, and the travel hub has the other 56 destinations if this one turns out to be the wrong fit.
