Gurgaon to Diu With a Dog

Roughly 1350km by road, which is around 21 hours of driving. Almost nobody does this by car with a dog. Train or plane is the sensible route.

One page, both legs. Whether you are leaving Gurgaon or heading home from Diu, the planning is identical.

Do not drive this one

1350km each way is two days of driving in each direction, which is more travel than trip. Trains serve Diu through Delvada, about 9 km away, with Veraval as the larger option roughly 90 km out.

Leaving Gurgaon

Diu lies south west of Gurgaon, roughly 1350km by road. Leaving Gurgaon is really a question of which way you cross the expressway. Southbound on NH48 is clear early and solid from about 8am once Manesar traffic builds, and anything through Delhi is worse than going around it. Aim to be past Kherki Daula before seven.

Where to break this journey

For a drive this long, plan the halts before you leave rather than finding them tired.

Closer from Gurgaon, if this is further than you wanted

Diu in one paragraph

Quieter beaches than Goa with far fewer crowds. Same beach cautions apply: hot sand in the middle of the day, and sea water that upsets stomachs.

The full Diu guide sets out the walkable ground, the places that turn dogs away and what the weather does to it.

Veterinary access at the far end

Very limited on the island. Una on the mainland, about 30 minutes away, has basic options and Junagadh or Bhavnagar is the referral point. Carry what you need.

Two numbers beat one. Clinics close, and the second call is the one that matters at midnight. Emergency vets by city.

Timing it from Gurgaon

Gurgaon shares Delhi's extremes: over 45C in May and June, and difficult winter air. The high rise stock also means many dogs get less ground level exercise than their breed needs, which shows up as weight and joint problems.

Diwali is the peak week for emergencies. Summer heat is the other.

Set that against Diu, where the advice is to go october to march and avoid April to June. The overlap between those two windows is your actual travel season, and it is usually narrower than either one suggests on its own.

Doing this journey with your dog

At around 21 hours of driving this is two days each way, which is the argument for the train. Plan the first stop before you leave, not when the dog starts complaining. Somewhere with shade and a patch of grass inside the first ninety minutes sets the pattern for the rest of the 21 hours, and it tells you early whether this dog travels well. The stop you improvise on a highway shoulder helps nobody.

Our breed climate checker scores how your breed copes with the conditions at Diu, and the travel hub has the other 56 destinations if this one turns out to be the wrong fit.
