How Long Can a Puppy Hold Its Pee?

Pick your puppy's age to see how long they can hold their bladder and how many toilet trips a day to plan for.

How old is your puppy? (months)

The puppy bladder rule of thumb

A young puppy can hold its bladder for roughly its age in months plus one, measured in hours, up to about 8 hours once grown. A 2 month old puppy manages around 3 hours, a 3 month old around 4, and so on. This holds overnight too, which is the hard part in an apartment. A 10 week old puppy physically cannot last from bedtime to morning, so you are looking at a 2am trip down, or an indoor pad they can reach on their own.

This is exactly where an indoor coir pad earns its place. Plan the full routine with the potty planner, or read the 3-day training guide.
