Why the "multiply by 7" rule is wrong
Dogs pack a lot of growing into their first two years. A one year old dog is roughly a 15 year old human, and a two year old dog is around 24. After that the pace slows, and it slows differently by size. Smaller dogs tend to live longer and age more gently, while large and giant breeds age faster in their later years. That is why a flat multiplier misses the mark.
