Where to adopt in Indore
- Samta Jivdaya TrustrescueAdoptionRescueSterilisation
Registered at South Tukoganj, Indore. Their site describes street rescues and first aid, vaccination and deworming drives, sterilisation programmes, and adoption and foster placement for dogs and cats.
their site - AWARErescueRescueSterilisation
Their site says AWARE has worked with street animals in Indore since 2012, running anti rabies vaccination camps and starting a stray dog sterilisation programme that Indore Municipal Corporation later took up at scale. The organisation states it also got the use of catching tongs stopped in favour of nets, and that it counsels residents in areas where there is conflict over street dogs. Adoption is not described on the site, so ask.
their site - Vale of Dogs FoundationrescueAdoptionRescue
Their homepage says the foundation was founded in Indore in 2022 by Tejaswini Gulati and Devansh Hablani, that it feeds and cares for more than 30 community dogs daily, runs medical rescues and rehomes abandoned dogs, and that it has rescued about 70 dogs and sheltered around 50. The about page on the same site still carries unedited template text from the theme, so treat the homepage as the part the founders stand behind. Ring the numbers in the footer to confirm anything before you travel.
their site - The Canine HelprescueAdoptionRescue
The organisation describes itself as an animal care and education centre in Indore working on care, behaviour and rescue for street animals. Its page carries adoption appeals, including a standing one for older dogs, alongside vaccination and treatment updates. Instagram is the only official presence we could find, so message the page.
their site - Jasraj Animal Shelter TAWSshelterAdoptionRescue
Their page says the NGO was registered in 2019, that it rescues and treats injured animals, takes in abandoned dogs and helps with adoption, and that donations are tax exempt. The listed location is near the Rau bypass in Indore. The website printed on the page did not resolve when we checked, so Facebook is the working contact route.

What the list shows for Indore
4 of 5 state that they rehome animals. 5 also do rescue work, which means they are the number to ring about an animal on the street rather than only about adopting one. 2 run sterilisation alongside it. They are a mix of rescue, shelter, and those are genuinely different operations rather than different words for the same thing.
Your first fortnight in Indore
The first two weeks decide most of how this goes. Three arrangements matter, and everything else can wait until you know the animal.
- A vet in the first week, before anything is wrong. We list 5 after hours options in Indore, of which 1 state round the clock cover. The point of going early is that you meet the staff and they meet the animal, which is what you want established before a bad night.
- Sterilisation, if it has not already been done. We list 2 low cost or subsidised providers in Indore, and several run free programmes for street animals that will also take an owned pet.
- An enzymatic cleaner rather than phenyl. The ammonia in most household cleaners is close enough to urine that a dog treats a mopped patch as a reason to return to it. It matters more with a rescue than with a puppy, because a dog that has lived outdoors has no reason to think your floor is different from any other ground.
An Indie who has come off the street is usually already toilet trained, to dust and mud rather than to tile. The first fortnight is about showing them where that surface now lives indoors, not about training a dog from nothing.
