Sniff Society Q&A: Your Questions, Answered

What is Sniff Society, how does the coir pad work, and is it right for your apartment dog? Everything you want to know, answered simply.

Sniff Society gets asked about a lot. What is it, how does it work, is it actually better than a pee pad? Here are the questions that land in our inbox most often, answered straight.

What Sniff Society Is

What is Sniff Society?

Sniff Society is an Indian brand making natural coir pads for apartment dogs who need an indoor potty spot. The coir pad sits in a tray on your balcony or bathroom floor, and your dog uses it the way they would any outdoor surface. It was built for city dogs, specifically the ones living on the 12th floor with no garden access.

Who is it for?

It is for apartment dog parents in cities like Gurgaon and Mumbai where a 2am potty emergency means either waking up the lift operator or hoping your dog holds it. Small and medium breeds, Shih Tzus, Malteses, Beagles, and similar dogs take to it quickly. Puppies being trained from scratch tend to adapt fastest.

Why is it called Sniff Society?

The name comes from how dogs actually understand their world: through scent. The coir surface holds natural odour cues that tell your dog this is the right spot. Society is a nod to apartment life in India, where every dog owner is navigating lift rules, RWA pet policies, and shared lobbies daily.

Is Sniff Society a social network or app?

It is a product brand, not a platform or community app. If you searched for a dog social network, this is a different thing entirely. Sniff Society makes a physical coir pad for indoor dog potty use.

Tired of the 2am elevator ride?

SniffSociety's natural coir pad lets your dog go indoors. No smell, no scrubbing, no walks in the rain. Built for Indian apartments.

How the Sniff Society Coir Pad Works

How does the coir pad actually work?

You place the coir pad in a tray. That is genuinely the setup. The natural coir fibres feel like outdoor ground to your dog, which makes them comfortable using it without extended training in most cases. Pixie figured it out within two days, which I did not expect from a Maltese.

Why coir and not artificial grass or a pee pad?

Artificial grass needs to be cleaned in your bathtub, which is unpleasant, and it holds smell in the synthetic fibres over time. Pee pads are single-use plastic that you bin after one use. Coir is a natural fibre, biodegradable, and the texture is closer to what dogs encounter outdoors. You can read more about the material on the Why Coir page.

Does it work for dogs already trained on pee pads?

Yes, with a short transition. Place the coir pad in the same spot your pee pad used to sit for a few days. Most dogs shift over within a week because the scent retention on coir actually makes it a clearer signal than a flat plastic sheet. The training guide walks through the steps if your dog needs more time.

Where in the apartment do you keep it?

Balcony is the most common spot. Bathroom works if the balcony is not an option. The tray keeps the floor clean, so marble and mosaic tile floors are fine underneath it.

Living with Sniff Society

Does it help with society complaints about dogs in common areas?

Indirectly, yes. When your dog has a reliable indoor spot, you are not rushing them through the lobby at odd hours or hoping the guard is in a good mood at midnight. Fewer unplanned outdoor trips means fewer chances for the kind of incidents that lead to RWA complaints.

What does it cost?

Pads are priced in the range of ₹300-600 depending on size, which puts them well below the recurring cost of daily pee pads over a month.

How often do you replace the pad?

Roughly every 3-4 weeks for a single dog under 10kg. Larger dogs or households with two dogs will replace closer to every 2 weeks. The pad tells you when it is time.

Is it available across India?
